Yes the day has come, full pony pegasi have arrived! This was always eventually gonna happen, though I still consider F’Deem to be Earth pony focused.
Originally, just like with the Pinisus piece, I planned on having it just be molded into the body, though this created issues with print orientation and a lack of flexibility. My goal with the ponies has been extreme posability with the most minimal aesthetic changes to the design. Some of that breaks away with how the tops of the limbs have that small bevel, but that then became more of the aesthetic altogether with how I design pieces now. The wings do begin to break this by having these massive clips to hold each one, but it was well worth it for letting them be able to be flapped or put in a glide position. I plan on a closed variant for wings, one more resembling a bat’s, and others in the future.
The clips are also new to the system! There technically is no small ‘bar’ piece like in other systems due to reliability of printing that small. Instead F’Deem’s bars are the width of studs, so this makes stuff like the poles and sticks count as bars now. These clips also count as sockets, so you can stick pegs into them just fine to be held. I am still unsure on the current reliability of clips, as by nature PLA is not going to like the repeated stress, but atleast from my tests they work and hold onto items well. I may make their inner ring tighter at some point to give them a more friction fit (or have a variant).
I also designed a new ridged wall design in 2x2x4 and 2x6x4 sizes. I was inspired to make it as I am going through my first run of Star Trek TNG and noticed the design in Data’s office (saw it in the s3 episode where everyone thinks he died or something)
Next is a key piece, I’ve been wanting to do one but I’m still unsatisfied with the result. Its one of those things that’d look off trying to make as a peg piece, but then it also doesn’t have any functionality as a key in its current state. I do plan on making some sort of axle piece so maybe it’ll
Finally are some fish pieces! Just stuff I’ve been needing to make, maybe will throw a fish bone piece in there too at some point (or finish the fish head to connect to the Freaky Pony Fish Tail piece)
And random thought but probably one day I’d want to make an even bigger variant of F’Deem at maybe 2-3x scale. You can’t just scale up pieces though so it’d need its own system for things which could be fun to design. I really wanted this one alternate design for pegs to work out where they’re shaped like an octagon, that way they work in sockets, but also a custom axle type hole I was gonna make. Sadly at F’Deem’s scale (or atleast at the capability of printers right now) this doesn’t work out right, but maybe a bigger ‘F’Doom’ scale would work nicely.
